A workshop founded in Barcelona
Popelin sums up its approach with the motto «Simplemente bonito», or “simply beautiful”. The studio began in Barcelona in 1992, making textile accessories. The city’s heritage, Mediterranean light and colour still shape pieces made for everyday use and for giving.

Design, screen printing and workshop craft
Founded in 1992, Popelin Barcelona is a design studio and accessories workshop. In its fans, drawings become prints on cotton, paired with natural wood. Barcelona and the Mediterranean are the starting point for its collections.
From drawing to fan
Three steps in the workshop
Popelin draws its motifs and screen-prints them onto cotton. The printed fabric is then mounted on polished, waxed natural wood ribs in its Barcelona workshop.

The three golden rules
Recognisable icon
A Gaudí mosaic, a sgraffito pattern or a Barcelona paving tile. Popelin takes motifs we recognise from the city’s streets and puts them into something we can hold in one hand.
Visible imperfection
The natural grain is visible in the wooden ribs. Variations in pattern and tone are part of each piece’s appearance.

Fans and other accessories
Hand fans are the pieces we feature in the Club. Their prints range from butterflies and Art Nouveau roses to geometric patterns and references to Gaudí. Popelin also makes leather belts with decorative buckles, jewellery, bracelets such as the Trena, silk accessories, bags and leather fan cases.

From Barcelona to international trade fairs
Popelin sells through its own website, with gift wrap and personal messages available, and has had an Etsy shop since 2020. It also shows its collections at international trade fairs and offers adaptable displays for retailers.
